There are many ways you can try to stop smoking and the purpose of this website is to help you choose the best one for you. Whatever method you use to try to quit smoking, it’s ultimately going to come back to you and the choices you make. I strongly urge you to read this page entirely before going any further.
The power of suggestion
Let’s look at the basic stages of quitting:
1. You make a decision to quit
2. You choose a method (cold turkey, hypnotism, patch….)
3. You start the program
4. You fight the urge to start smoking again
5. You’re finally cured of the habit!
Unfortunately it just doesn’t happen like that and lots of people end up right back where they started.
How I quit smoking:
I made the decision to stop smoking up front. In fact, I liked smoking and couldn’t imagine not having a cigarette. So what happened…?
Well, I had gotten to the point where I was a slave to cigarettes. I was ashamed that I smoked, sneaking away and having two or three cigarettes at a time, several times a day. I thought I could just stop but no I would try but all I achieved was to keep the number of cigarettes down and I considered reducing my consumption level to a few a day was okay. Inside I didn’t really want to quit.
They were needed smokes!! I was constantly grumpy, moody looking for reasons to sneak away. After a while my wife said my moods were affecting our relationship. It was them that I decided that I would more than try, that I would stop smoking completely for a whole day. I could always go back to my closet smoking routine. I tried it and found it wasn’t as hard as I thought…
That was when I made the real decision to quit smoking. Up until then I had no long-term goals of going without cigarettes. It took being sick and tired of not only ruining my health but the relationships with those closest me to do something positive for myself.
Each of us is different and have will have a specific reason for quitting but once you reach the threshold and say to yourself that I am sick and tired of this situation and find a reason for quitting that is stronger than the reason for smoking, when you find that reason, it all becomes so much easier.
Before you do anything else – My advice is to find the reason you want to quit, as a first step. Them read some of the blogs to see which technique for quitting suits you best. Even if you feel you need to read about different method, knowing the reason to quit will provide a real boost to whatever you choose.
